Notes on 2023 Alien Individual Income Tax Returns


According to the National Taxation Bureau of Taipei, Ministry of Finance, the Alien Individual Income Tax Returns for the year 2023 will be processed starting from May 1 this year. Foreign taxpayers are urged to prepare their data in advance and complete their tax filing obligations on time.

The Bureau explains that, during the period of filing the individual income tax returns (from May 1 to May 31, 2024),  foreign taxpayers can visit the Ministry of Finance's e-Filing and tax payment service website (https://tax.nat.gov.tw) or the Bureau's website (https://www.ntbt.gov.tw) to download the e-Filing program and use the software to file the return on the Internet. In addition, taxpayers using Mac computers, Linux computers, or tablets can also use the online version to file tax returns. E-Filing provides the following four ways to log in, which are fast and convenient:
1. Alien Citizen Digital Certificate.
2. National Health Insurance card that has been registered for the National Health Insurance card online service.
3. Financial CA.
4. The unified number of your residence permit or visitor visa, and passport number, residence certificate number, or permit number as of January 31, 2024 (enter the inquiry code and date of birth to download the income and deduction data).

The Bureau reminds that, after completing the online filing, all supporting documents, such as those for dependent relatives, labor compensation from overseas employers, and itemized deductions, should be sent to the local taxation bureau before June 11, 2024. Foreign taxpayers residing in Taipei City should send their documents to the Foreign Taxpayer Service Section of the Individual Income, Estate and Gift Tax Division, National Taxation Bureau of Taipei (Address: 1F, No. 2, Sec. 1, Zhonghua Road, Wanhua District, Taipei City).

According to the Bureau, the online filing of the 2023 Alien Individual Income Tax Return will be available from 00:00 on May 1, 2024, to 24:00 on May 31, 2024, and this service will be in operation 24 hours a day. Foreign taxpayers can file tax returns online and pay taxes by credit card or ATM card, which is safe, time-saving, and convenient, and they no longer need to wait in line at the Bureau. In order to safeguard their rights,  foreign taxpayers are advised to file their tax returns as early as possible to ensure peace of mind.
